A mid-19th century French mantel clock by the respected Parisian maker Le Roy and Fils, signed to the dial:
Le Roy and Fils
Palais Royal Galerie Montpensier
Paris
211 Regent Street
London
The movement backplate is stamped Leroy and Fils – 11073 – A Paris, confirming manufacture in Paris during the firm’s dual Paris and London operating period, circa 1850–1860.
The clock is housed in a solid red marble architectural case with brass bezel and moulded detailing. It strikes the hour and half hour on a bell and retains its winding key.
The movement winds correctly, ticks strongly and the strike operates. I have tested it over a 24 hour period and it hold very reasonable time, loosing 2 -3 mins, but would benefit from a service no doubt
A genuine Le Roy and Fils example in a restrained and classical marble case — an opportunity to acquire a recognised maker at a price reflecting service requirement.
