Here we have a black velvet jewellery casket with the French royalty emblem embroidered on the top 8cm tall
The fleur-de-lis has been used by French royalty ever since the Franks united under a single ruler, King Clovis I. When Clovis was crowned, an ampulla with a fleur-de-lis insignia was used to anoint him as king. As time went on, the symbol came to represent the French monarchs divine right to rule.
Since then, the fleur-de-lis has appeared on the French coat of arms, past versions of the French flag, and the ruling monarchs shield. While its no longer used on the flag, its still used on the French coat of arms.
So we are lead to believe that this is French - it has a lovely black silk lining, gold bradding to the lid perimeter and a jazzy tassel to the front
