Here we have a collection of antique hand painted diecast metal/lead farmyard animals, figures and accessories by F. G. Taylor and sons, Timpo and Britains
Two years after being demobbed from the Army following WW1, Fred G Taylor and Alfred Barrett set up Taylor and Barrett in 1920. Taylor (a former lift installer & repairer) and his brother-in- law Barrett (formerly a lead caster employed at W. Britain Ltd) were later joined by Barretts brother who similarly worked for W. Britain Ltd. followed by two of Barretts sons.
Timpo was founded in 1938 in England and was a reseller of toy soldiers, both foreign and domestic. They began producing their own miniature toys because of the difficulty of importing during WWII. These toys were manufactured of wood, Bakelite, and composites, primarily because of material restrictions in effect during the war.
Britains, earlier known by the founder's name W. Britain, is a British toy company known for its diecast lead toy soldiers. The company, however, with its factory in London, also diversified into other associated toys such as diecast zamac military trucks, agriculture and commercial vehicles, and toy cars.
Some of the pieces have lost some paint and some have dints - play warn we call it :)
