Ban Chiang is an archaeological site in Nong Han district, Udon Thani province, Thailand.
It has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992. Discovered in 1966, the site first attracted interest due to its ancient red-painted pottery
For Thais and ceramic enthusiasts everywhere, the name Ban Chiang conjures up an image of uniquely painted pottery.
The red pattern, which later became known as the Ban Chiang Rope, characterizes the clay jars that are around 5,000-7,000 years old, and, perhaps, some of the oldest in the world and clearly see on this piece
This vessel was purchased from a very reputable Sussex Auction house.
The condition is as you would expect of a piece of this age , having said that it has very few chips and no signs of cracks
