Here we have a Jane Bridger studio pottery/urn raku vase in classical form, signed to base, height 30cm
Jane teaches Ceramics at Tunbridge Wells Adult Education Centre. An active member of Kent Potters, she sells her work at their gallery at Maidstone and regularly exhibits with them.
Her work can be seen in several galleries in the South East and this year she exhibited with the Society of Women Artists at the Westminster Gallery, London.
Jane's work is mostly thrown and classical in form. Most of her pots are raku-fired, using a slip resist technique, but she also enjoys making a range of plates and bottles that are fired to earthenware temperature and decorated with a black fish design.
Raku generally refers to a type of low-firing process that was inspired by traditional Japanese raku firing. Western-style raku usually involves removing pottery from the kiln while at bright red heat and placing it into containers with combustible materials
This Vase is in good condition but it looks like one of the side finial/arms has been repaired (see image)
