Here we have a limited edition Stirling Mk III pewter model made by Diverse Images Aircraft Collection to celebrate flight sergeant A.L. Aaron of 218 Squadron who was awarded the Victoria Cross for bravery
This Stirling MkIII pewter aircraft model by Diverse Images Aircraft Collection is a historic aircraft hand crafted in finest English pewter in very fine detail this model was produced as a limited edition.
This is number 156 out of 200. Long since sold out these have become very collectable. This Stirling shows the aircraft (Stirling III EF452, HA-O of 218 Sqn) flown by F/Sgt Aaron. "Allthough mortally wounded Flight Sergeant Aaron brought his Stirling, after a raid on Italy, to safely land in North Africa on the 12/13 August 1943. He was posthumously awarded the Victoria Cross in recognition of his outstanding bravery."
Model comes with certificate signed managing director Tim Staples and Sera Vine, sculptress.
Aaron was 21 years old, flying Stirling serial number EF452 on his 20th sortie. Nearing the target, his bomber was struck by machine gun fire. The bomber's Canadian navigator, Cornelius A. Brennan, was killed and other members of the crew were wounded.
The condition overall is good, a bit of paint loss to the tail fin top and wing tips, the propellors are all there as are the ground pieces,
