Here we have a Medallion fob designed by Dr C. Pfeuffer (1801 - 1861) commemorating Dr C. I. Carstanjen 1835

Once part of Sir Henry Wellcome's Museum Collection at The Science Museum

The verso of the medallion has a Latin script that reads: "Viro Illustrissimo Medico Sollertissimo Sagacissimo Pietate Insigni Et Ingenio Grata Civitas Duisburgensis D.D.D. Vnon. Mart. MDCCCXXXV"

Translates roughly as "To the Most Illustrious Man, the Most Skilled Physician, the Most Ingenious, and the Most Ingenious, the City of Duisburg, DDD Vnon. March 1835"

The recto reads: "C. I. Carstanjen FEC MSD.D.ET PROF. P.O.IN Univ. Lit. quondam Duisburg" and translates as "CI Carstanjen FEC MSD.D.ET PROF. POIN Univ. Lit. formerly Duisburg

Christoph Carl Pfeuffer was a German artist who was born in 1801 his work has been offered at auction multiple times, with realized prices ranging from 527 USD to 2,374 USD, depending on the size and medium of the artwork.

Since 2022 the record price for this artist at auction is 2,374 USD for A cast iron New Year's plaque "ANNO 1831", sold at Lempertz, Berlin in 2022.

The lovely original case that this Medallion comes in reads "Berliner medaillen Munze Collnowstr. 11A - OTTO OERTEL BERLIN N.O. " to the front
