Here we have a set of early 19th century mahogany cased diamond scales made and sold by De Grave & Son London, the case 13.5cm wide
The box has got some damage to the perimeter of the lid as you can see from the images.
The scales function as they should, the set of weights are complete
This is a truly lovely set, set aside nowadays for electronic scales but a real slice of history from the jewellery/gemmology world
A set of diamond scales made by De grave and Son London England c. 1860. All the original weights are present. The round pans are copper and the balance beam is steel. The makers name is printed on a label that covers the inside lid of the scales and provides tables to calculate the value of any weight of diamonds. 13.5 x 6.5 x 2.5cm box
