A characterful Chinese folk/export doll from the mid-20th century, standing about 23cm tall.
The head, hands and feet are carved and painted wood, finished with a glossy varnish that now shows attractive age crazing. The soft body is cloth, stuffed with straw, so it has the authentic light feel these earlier dolls are known for.
Dressed in a patterned burgundy jacket with pale green cap/hood trimmed in red braid. A small double-pierced coin/amulet (included) came stitched to the outfit when found – a charming good-luck touch often seen on period costume dolls. Unmarked.
Condition – Honest age wear: varnish crackle and small marks to the wooden head, some fray/soiling to the clothes and trims, general patina. Secure overall and displays well.
Size – Approx. 23cm (9") tall.
