Here we have an Edwardian wooden William Patons' twine shop advertising dispenser Johnstone Scotland 14cm tall
A charming antique wooden shops advertising dispenser for Patons' Twine. A wonderful piece of early advertising which would have been used to dispense twine from behind a shop counter.
The piece could be displayed to advertise either Boot Laces or Twine depending on the contents & each panel features different imagery & text.
The lid has a central hole from which the contents were pulled & cut to length & the inside retains its original rollers.
A very rare survivor & a wonderful display piece! measures 14x14x12cm
William Paton began manufacturing boot laces & twine in around 1840 when cotton boot laces were in thier infancy with leather laces being the standard choice. Around 20 years later he purchased the Johnstone Cotton Mills to cope with increased demand & continued producing boot laces, twine & fishing nets until his death in 1880 when the business was passed to his three sons.
