Here we have an original Japanese mounted colour woodblock print of a Samurai Warrior by Toyokuni (1769 - 1825) image 34.5cm x 25cm
The sheet is stuck down at the corners onto a backing sheet and mount, trimmed to edge of image, very slight paper discolouration but no tears or paper damage - some light foxing see images
Utagawa Toyokuni also often referred to as Toyokuni I, to distinguish him from the members of his school who took over his g (art-name) after he died, was a great master of ukiyo-e, known in particular for his kabuki actor prints.
He was the second head of the renowned Utagawa school of Japanese woodblock artists, and was the artist who elevated it to the position of great fame and power it occupied for the rest of the nineteenth century.
This is quite a rare block print and once remounted and framed would proudly hang on the wall of many an avid collector
