Certainly this fulfils the brief to be included as a piece of Folk Art - original, hand made by an none academic, useful, quirky and one off

This piece has been hand carved from one piece of silver birch - you can still see the bark below the face

The face is very familiar it could have come straight from an ancient fable - a long pointed nose points to witchcraft but the acorn finial type hat points more to imaginative woodland creatures.

A truly one of piece that has a use - the heavy patina, smooth to the touch surfaces helps us age this but we are guessing some what at the beginning of the last century - but this was when creatures like this were popular in the imagination of the many
