A fine antique Art Nouveau copper jug made by Joseph Sankey & Sons of Bilston, Staffordshire, dating from around 1905. Registered Design No. 431345 is clearly stamped to the base along with the maker’s mark JS & SB.
This elegant lidded jug features a raised pewter overlay in a flowing organic floral design, typical of the English Art Nouveau or Arts & Crafts movement.
The domed lid and sculpted handle have the distinctive lines associated with early 20th-century design, echoing the work of designers such as Archibald Knox and the Glasgow School.
Made from planished copper with pewter detailing, the jug has developed a beautiful warm patina over time. A striking decorative piece for display, or an ideal collector’s example of quality British metalware from the Edwardian era.
Condition:
Good antique condition. Some surface wear and minor age-related marks consistent with age and use. Unpolished original patina retained.
