A late 19th to early 20th-century clay ocarina made by the Viennese maker Okarina-Fabrik H. Fiehn. This example is the F 4 model, stamped to the body and retaining both original transfer labels, worn but still readable.
The ocarina is hand-formed in reddish clay with a darkened slip and has the typical ten-hole layout associated with Fiehn’s small to mid-size instruments. The surface shows handling wear, patina and use marks, but the piece remains structurally sound with all tone holes intact.
A good, honest early Fiehn example that displays well and represents one of the notable European makers.
