A rare antique cast brass “Transvaal Money Box”, made in England circa 1900, modelled as a caricature of President Paul Kruger of the South African Republic.
The figure wears a top hat engraved TRAN.VAAL MONEY BOX and a buttoned frock coat. Coins slot through the hat, and the base unscrews to release savings.
Produced as a Boer War satirical novelty, these coin banks reflected British political humour of the era and were sold as patriotic souvenirs. Each was individually cast and hand-finished, giving unique surface variations and lettering.
