A characterful mixed set of five late Victorian–early 20th-century British beech moulding planes, each bearing a clear maker’s stamp and retaining its original wedge and cutting iron. Makers represented include C. Dabner, J. Buck of London, King & Co of Hull, J. Smith, J. Carr, G. Cooper and Sims London.
The set includes a variety of traditional profiles used by cabinetmakers and joiners: ovolo and bead planes, a hollow-and-round type, and a more complex moulding profile by G. Cooper with the distinctive JX mark. All are made from dense beech with good colour, tool marks and the patina that develops through long workshop use.
These planes display excellent period craftsmanship, from the shaped totes to the correctly fitted irons. They make an appealing addition to a workshop, tool collection or interior display, offering both authentic working tools and decorative interest.
