An early 20th-century brass hunting horn, dating from the first decades of the 1900s and measuring approximately 30 cm in length. This is a compact huntsman’s horn of the type traditionally used for ceremonial and signalling purposes during mounted hunts.
The horn is formed from hand-worked brass with a coiled double-loop body and flared bell, fitted with an integral mouthpiece designed to be blown rather than mechanically operated. It retains its original braided cord sling with twin tassels, allowing the horn to be worn over the shoulder while riding. The cord remains intact and displays attractive period colouring.
An applied decorative brass badge featuring an animal motif is fixed to the body, adding a heraldic and ceremonial element typical of hunt equipment rather than utilitarian signalling devices. A short chain retainer is also present, consistent with practical use while mounted.
The brass surface has developed a deep, untouched patina, with gentle tonal variation and surface wear consistent with age and traditional use. This is a well-preserved and characterful example of early 20th-century hunting equipment, increasingly difficult to find complete with original cord and fittings.
