A wonderfully honest and characterful 19th-century hand-forged copper jug, crafted with traditional riveted construction and a deeply aged, naturally developed Verdigris patina. Tall and sculptural at 29 cm and weighing a substantial 1.8 kg, this example carries all the irregularities, hammering, solder lines and working marks expected of genuine rural or workshop-made copper.
The body is built in sections and joined with overlapping seams and copper rivets. The large strap handle is heavily worked and secured at both ends with early hand-formed fastenings. The base shows pierced areas and wear, suggesting long service life — likely once used for water, brewing or dairy tasks before being retired to decorative use. Today it makes an exceptional rustic accent piece for a kitchen, pantry, hearth or farmhouse interior.
