A remarkable set of original antique French postcards (circa 1900–1920), discovered within the Eric Morecambe family photo album that formed part of The Eric Morecambe Collection auctioned by Hansons in January 2025.
These evocative black-and-white and sepia cards capture scenes of Caudebec-en-Caux, Normandy, printed by the celebrated French publisher LL (Lévy et Neurdein Réunis) — showing everyday life on the quay, local markets, harbour views, and half-timbered Norman architecture. One charming English card, “A Willing Hand” by Fred Morgan, is also included.
All were originally kept in Eric Morecambe’s own study in his Harpenden home, where they were found alongside the family’s private photo albums. Their presence offers a touching glimpse into the comedian’s personal interests beyond the stage — an appreciation of art, history and storytelling.
