A fine antique Georgian mahogany sewing or writing box dating from around 1800. The box is beautifully decorated with shell marquetry inlays and satinwood stringing, typical of late-18th-century English craftsmanship.
The hinged lid opens to a spacious interior above a single fitted drawer, each with a small turned knob. Both keyholes feature diamond-shaped satinwood escutcheons, and the box retains its working lock with key.
Made from richly figured mahogany with decorative inlays to the top and front, this elegant piece would once have been used for sewing accessories or writing tools. Today, it makes a lovely collector’s piece or decorative storage box for jewellery, keepsakes or stationery.
