A handsome early twentieth-century German mantel clock dating to around the 1930s, housed in an attractive walnut case with elegant inlaid decoration, arched top and brass-capped columns.
The clock features a silvered Roman numeral dial with blued steel hands behind its original glazed door. Inside is a quality German eight-day Westminster movement striking on five gong rods, chiming each quarter hour before striking the hours.
The movement is stamped Germany and carries the 156/40 movement reference together with the Silentic trademark associated with German silent escapement movements of the period.
The warm walnut case has developed an attractive aged patina over many decades and makes an impressive decorative piece whether displayed on a mantelpiece, sideboard or library shelf.

Overall this clock presents well.
The movement winds, ticks and the Westminster chimes sound on the quarter hours. As with all antique clocks, we cannot guarantee long-term timekeeping accuracy or servicing history and therefore recommend routine servicing before regular use if absolute accuracy is required. This clock is currently ticking and has an erratic quarterly chime
Cosmetically there are age-related marks, scratches and areas of wear to the case consistent with nearly a century of use. There are some darker and reddish marks to parts of the timber finish, along with small knocks and minor veneer imperfections, all clearly shown in the photographs.
The dial has gentle age-related tarnishing but remains very attractive.
Overall, this is an honest antique clock with considerable decorative appeal.
