An attractive and unusual early 20th-century hair-on-hide covered case with a warm brass frame, sprung catch and leather-lined interior.
The case has a wonderful tactile quality, with its natural hair-on-hide exterior and mellow brass mount, giving it a distinctive country house or sporting aesthetic.
Its original purpose is uncertain, although it may have been used to carry playing cards, cigarillos, calling cards or other small personal effects. Today it makes an interesting decorative object, collector's piece or stylish desk accessory.
The brass catch works smoothly and the lid opens and closes securely. Inside is the original leather lining, displaying gentle age-related wear consistent with its age and use.
