Indian folk-art carvings are deeply tied to regional traditions, reflecting both religious devotion and artistic expression.
Often created for temples or shrines, these carvings served as symbols of worship, storytelling, and community identity.
The South Indian regions of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Odisha are especially known for their vibrant temple wood carvings, where deities and mythological figures were brought to life through intricate designs, bold proportions, and themes of protection, prosperity, and spiritual connection.
This piece looks to have been part of a larger wooden construction as it has a well defined cuboid wooden notch to the top that probably slotted in to an hole to make a tidy joint
