A beautifully cast antique Japanese bronze hand mirror, dating to the late Meiji period (c.1900). This elegant example features a finely detailed landscape with cranes, pine and bamboo, set around the large central character 壽 (kotobuki) — a symbol of long life, celebration and auspicious blessings. The design is rich with classical motifs, including scholar figures, mountains and stylised foliage, arranged in harmonious low relief.

The reverse retains its original smooth bronze surface, now dulled with age, and the surface exhibits an attractive natural patina with areas of green verdigris. The handle is cast in one piece with the mirror, giving it strength and a pleasing balance in the hand.

A workshop signature is cast along the lower edge, typical of Meiji workmanship, and the mirror presents as a striking decorative object for display, wall hanging, or thematic interior styling.

A characterful and symbolic Japanese piece with excellent presence and historical charm.
