While the embossed front cover proudly bears the society's 1698 founding date—a hallmark of its long-standing heritage—this particular pocket edition was printed during the 19th century (circa mid-to-late Victorian era) by Eyre and Spottiswoode, Printers to the Queen. Measuring 16 cm by 12 cm by 4 cm, this compact volume contains both the Old and New Testaments ("Appointed to be read in churches"). Adding a wonderful layer of personal social history, the front flyleaves feature charming handwritten marginalia, church service notes, and annotations dated November 1944.
