A finely made 19th-century Victorian writing slope in rich rosewood, featuring elegant brass stringing, flush-fitting campaign-style carrying handles and a central brass cartouche engraved with the monogram EJ. The slope opens to reveal a fitted interior with lidded compartments, storage sections and its original pair of faceted glass inkwells.
The writing surface folds to reveal additional storage beneath, and the upper section lifts on its retaining tabs to provide further space for papers and documents. The craftsmanship is typical of mid-to-late Victorian portable writing boxes, with quality timbers, neatly executed inlay and a practical travelling design.
A characterful and functional antique example that presents beautifully and remains entirely usable today—an ideal decorative accent for an office, library or study.
