A charming and complete set of vintage turned wood chess pieces, presented in the original wooden “Royal Box of Chessmen.” Likely made in Britain c.1900–1920, this is a fine example of the Regency or Northern Upright pattern that preceded the Staunton design. Finely turned from natural and ebonised wood, the set includes all major and minor pieces with lathe-turned detail and attractive disc collars.
The knights are particularly characterful with hand-carved features. The king stands approximately 6cm tall. Includes the original wooden slide-lid box with surviving printed label to front.
Condition: Good vintage condition with age-appropriate wear. Some light surface wear and minor nicks. Box label has losses. The knights are a little loose and looked to have ben repaired in the past
Materials: Boxwood, ebony-stained wood
Era: Early 20th century
Origin: United Kingdom
