A Chinese glazed earthenware square plate with canted corners, decorated with a central spider on its web surrounded by a variety of insects including hornets, beetles, locusts and spiders.
The plate measures approximately 20cm x 20cm and has a cream crackle glaze with a brown-edged rim. The underside carries a four-character red seal mark.
The mark to the base reads: Huá Róng Táng Zhì
which translates as "Made for Huarong Hall" or "Made by Huarong Hall". This is a workshop or studio mark
The plate is in good condition with no chips or cracks. There is light age-related crazing to the glaze, which is mentioned for accuracy and shown in the photographs.
