Friesche Koper Kunst embossed brass/copper hinged tobacco tin - Frisian copper art 10.5cm wide

Klaas Dijkstra (1895 - 1969) started working as an independent coppersmith in 1914 at the age of 19. He had been trained by silversmith Thijs de Haan from Sneek. The company started very prosperously and by 1920 there were already 22 people at work.

At the end of the 1920s, he got Douwe Egberts as a client. Brass from Dijkstra could be obtained at coffee and tea points. Especially for Douwe Egberts, the brand Friesche koper kunst was made. All articles that were received were marked with the text "Frisian copper art".

For all other assignments, everything was marked with "Klaas Dijkstra Sneek"At the end of the 1930s, the crisis put an end to Klaas Dijkstra's company. In the meantime, they had also lost Douwe Egberts as a customer. His two brothers Piet (1896 - 1966) and Sander (1901 - 1940) took over the company in 1937. He marked everything with the mark "P & S Dijkstra".

In 1944, Piet's son joined the business. That was Jan Dijkstra (1928-2005). After the death of Jan Dijkstra, the workshop was transferred to the museum in Joure.

This example has ben well polished over the years, well looked after with a few dints and scratches - but a lovely example of this very collectable brass and cooper ware
