A fine George III solid silver cream jug, fully hallmarked for London, 1775, with the maker’s mark TS for Thomas Shepherd.
This elegant 18th century jug is crafted in baluster form with a beaded collar, feather scroll handle, and stands on a circular foot. The body is richly decorated in repoussé with village and hunting dog scenes, showing detailed cottages, trees and rustic figures.
The jug measures 10 cm tall and weighs 68 grams. The silver has a lovely antique patina and is in very good condition for a piece that is now 250 years old, with only minor wear consistent with age.
Thomas Shepherd was an accomplished London silversmith of the late 18th century, and his silver is sought after by collectors of Georgian English silverware. This piece would make a fine addition to any collection or a special gift for a silver enthusiast.
