A very fine example of a George III inlaid mahogany rectangular tea caddy measuring approximately 18 cm x 12 cm x 11 cm.
The exterior is constructed from figured mahogany, accented with delicate boxwood stringing and centered with distinctive inlaid patera or fan motifs within green-stained oval reserves on both the hinged lid and front panel. The box features an ivory or bone diamond-shaped escutcheon and includes a working key.
Lifting the lid reveals a dual-compartment interior retaining its original matching pair of internal lidded tea canisters complete with small turned knobs, alongside fragments of traditional marbled paper lining inside the lid. The base is finished with a felt protective covering.
