Studio art pottery jug by Jean‑Paul Landreau, a highly collectable French ceramicist known for his vibrant abstract work, layered slip decoration and expressive sgraffito techniques.

This jug features Landreau’s characteristic deep blue glaze ground, overlaid with a bold yellow face motif and white linear sgraffito drawings incorporating stars and abstract forms. The decoration is applied layer over layer, reflecting Landreau’s painterly approach to ceramics and his interest in surface as a compositional space.

Landreau’s work is frequently discussed in relation to modern painters such as Henri Matisse and Fernand Léger, and is often described as being in the spirit of Pablo Picasso, particularly in its bold abstraction and graphic confidence.

The jug is hand built with a shaped pouring lip and substantial handle, suitable for display as an art object or light functional use.
