A charming pair of vintage Poole Pottery stoneware bird figures, produced in the 1970s–1980s and displaying the distinctive soft modelling and detailed feather texturing associated with Poole’s stoneware wildlife range. The taller bird stands approximately 12cm high and the smaller 9cm, both formed in a naturalistic perched pose typical of the period.
Each bird carries the impressed POOLE ENGLAND mark to the base, along with an additional modeller’s monogram. Both pieces show the same JS / SJ mark, which aligns with the work of Jean Soper, a recognised Poole modeller active during the late 20th century. While full attribution cannot be guaranteed, the modelling style and signature form are strongly consistent with her known work.
The smaller bird has a historic chip to the tip of the tail, visible in photographs; otherwise both pieces present well with attractive, clean surfaces and defined detailing.
Condition
🌿 Taller bird: Good vintage condition, no chips or cracks.
🌿 Smaller bird: Chip to tail tip; no other damage observed.
🌿 Both pieces show typical light handling wear appropriate to age.
