John Biccard (born John Henry Burnwood, 1941) worked under his mother’s maiden name and created his sculptures in modest quantities from the early 1970s until 1999, when he stopped production. Each work is hand finished, with its own character and personality.
Biccard sculptures were originally sold in select locations such as Table Mountain gift shops, Excalibur Art Ltd, and South African décor boutiques. Today they are highly collectable worldwide, with larger pieces especially valued due to the amount of crushed marble required to create them.
This particular example is in excellent vintage condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs, and displays beautifully from every angle. A fine addition for collectors of Biccard’s work, South African art, or unusual 20th-century figurative sculpture.
