A Royal Doulton character jug representing The Red Queen, modelled by renowned sculptor William K. Harper and first issued in 1987 as part of the beloved Alice in Wonderland series. This large-size jug is packed with sculptural detail: the Red Queen’s commanding expression, richly painted crown, and the distinctive axe-shaped handle topped with a heart — a clever nod to Lewis Carroll’s iconic character.
The underside carries the correct 1987 Royal Doulton backstamp along with Harper’s printed signature, confirming this example as an early production piece from the jug’s first year of issue. The number 84 (handwritten) is typical of Doulton’s internal painter or batch control marks. A strong example for collectors of Doulton’s storybook series or character jug specialists.
Perfect for display and an excellent gift for fans of Lewis Carroll’s world, classic English ceramics, or Royal Doulton memorabilia.
