The Illustrated London News Silver Jubilee King George V and Queen Mary 1935
The Silver Jubilee, 1935 In 1935, King George V and Queen Mary were the first British monarchs to celebrate a Silver Jubilee. Like many of the previous Jubilees, the central event was a carriage procession through London to St Paul’s Cathedral where a Service of Thanksgiving was held.
As the world’s first pictorial magazine, marking a revolution in journalism and news gathering, founded in 1842, just five years after Queen Victoria acceded to the throne, The Illustrated London News proved that pictures sold and that great royal occasions — from births to weddings, jubilees, funerals and, above all, coronations — were a publisher’s dream.
This copy isn't in great condition, the binding and spine are very worn as are the well thumbed corners but the contents are in good condition - the important images are protected by glassine sheets like those found in a wedding album - a sign of quality - The covers seemed to have been replaced with a thick card to protect the contents
