Two antique Crown Derby bloor period Imari style plates c1830 1825 to 1848 was the period during which Robert Bloor, a former clerk to the owners, was controlling Crown Derby. Among many other developments, Bloor encouraged the production of lines of porcelain decorated in colourful and gilded adaptations of Oriental patterns, of which this plate is an excellent example. Typically referred to as "imari style", the design features peonies in shades of red, yellow and brown, together with other scattered flowers amongst branches and leaves painted in the vivid blue so frequently used in Crown Derby porcelain, the bark of the trees and veins of the leaves being enhanced with hand painted gilding. These two are survivors - both have a crack and can be seen clearly in the images, one with a chip where the crack starts - both have gilt and colour loss as would be expected of plates surviving from this period. They measure 27cm in diameter
