A Rare Antique Early Leather Tinctures Phial Or Potions Bottle.
The Leather Has Oxidised Over The Years To Show A Lovely Colour.
Wise women (Who Were Often Supposed Witches) Were Knowledgeable In Health Care And Could Administer Potions, Lotions Or Salves In Addition To Performing Prayers Or Chants. This Was Often Free Of Charge Or Significantly Less Expensive Than The Potions Of Apothecaries.
When Glass Was Too Expensive For Country Folk, Wood And Sometimes Leather Were Used For Tinctures But Few Have Survived. Those Which Have Are Largely Seen In Museums.
