On the rear of this case in gold lettering is written ' Voulez Vous Des Cigarres.. ' - 'Do you want cigars'
This is a wonderful piece of everyday Victoriana- they were so flamboyant in this period; taking the time and effort to decorate something that could be construed as mundane with such a lovely romantic painting
The concertinaed leather sides are intact and in very good condition -see images
Looking more closely at the painting under a lens you can see the detail of the painting and the reassuring crazing to the paint
The inner pouch has also survived and in very good condition also for its 130 years
