Vintage 1985 Seiko 5 Automatic 7009-3100 Day Date Watch

A classic vintage Seiko 5 automatic wristwatch dating most probably to January 1985.

The watch has a silver-tone dial with applied baton hour markers, luminous-style hands, a central sweeping seconds hand and a day-and-date display at three o’clock. It is powered by Seiko’s reliable calibre 7009 automatic mechanical movement, which winds through the natural movement of the wearer’s wrist.

The stainless-steel case has the reference 7009-3100 and serial number 518610. The case back also carries the boxed A1 case-construction mark.

The watch is currently working and has a pleasing period appearance. It is fitted with a traditional silver-tone expanding bracelet, which appears likely to be a later replacement rather than the original Seiko bracelet.

CONDITION

Good vintage condition with visible wear consistent with age and previous use.

There are scratches, scuffs, small marks and areas of tarnishing or discolouration across the case, bezel, crystal and bracelet. The dial also has some age-related marking, particularly around its outer edge. Dirt, tarnishing and oxidation are visible in places around the bracelet fittings and between the lugs.

The expanding bracelet appears to be a later replacement and is not claimed to be original to the watch.

The watch is currently running, but it has not been professionally serviced or tested for accuracy, power reserve or prolonged operation. The day and date functions have not been separately tested. Its service history is unknown.

Although the case back is marked “Water Resistant”, no water-resistance test has been undertaken. It should therefore be treated as not water resistant and kept away from water.

As with any vintage mechanical watch, servicing may be advisable before regular use. No guarantee is given regarding future accuracy or continued operation.
