An attractive collection of three carved jadeite decorative pieces, each carved in a traditional Chinese style and displaying distinctive colours and craftsmanship.
The collection comprises:
- a carved pale celadon jadeite Money Toad (Chan Chu) seated upon a bed of coins with a cash coin held in its mouth, symbolising prosperity and good fortune;
- a grey-green jadeite carving depicting a dragon amongst swirling clouds, representing strength, protection and success;
- a taller mottled green and cream jadeite vessel featuring an encircling band of finely carved stylised mythical creatures around the rim, inspired by traditional Chinese decorative motifs.
The tallest piece measures approximately 7 cm in height.
The Money Toad is particularly well carved, with crisp detailing to the scales, limbs, facial features and the symbolic coins beneath it. The taller vessel displays attractive mottled green inclusions through creamy white stone, with carefully incised decoration and a pleasing tactile quality. The dragon carving has good depth and openwork, giving the design an attractive three-dimensional appearance.
Together they make an appealing decorative collection for display or for collectors of Chinese hardstone carvings.
Condition
All three pieces are in good vintage condition with light age-related wear and minor natural inclusions within the stone, as expected. I can see no obvious major chips or cracks from inspection. Please study the photographs carefully as they form part of the description.
