A charming mid-20th-century German chalet-style weather house, decorated in traditional Alpine folk-art colours with hand-painted details including fir trees, mushrooms and floral wreaths. These classic weather houses were designed so that the man and woman figures would rotate in and out of the door depending on humidity and air pressure, while a small thermometer hangs between them.
This example retains its original hand-painted figures and a functioning wind-up musical movement, marked Ländler 425 to the reverse. The musical box plays when wound and the mechanism engages correctly. The internal thermometer strip is missing, meaning the figures no longer rotate automatically, though they remain complete and intact.
