An unusual vintage propelling cocktail swizzle stick or collapsible cocktail whisk, finished in rolled gold with an attractive engine-turned body.
Pulling down the sliding central collar releases five fine stirring prongs together with a central ball-tipped stirrer. The prongs retract neatly inside the body when the collar is returned, creating a compact piece that could easily be carried or suspended by its end loop.
The mechanism works smoothly and correctly. The end is stamped “ROLLED GOLD”, confirming that the piece has a bonded gold outer layer rather than being made from solid gold.
Originally used for stirring cocktails or reducing the bubbles in champagne, it is now an appealing and unusual piece of vintage barware.
