A vintage Sadler Staffordshire ceramic teapot from the Shakespeare series, produced in the late 20th century. This example features A Midsummer Night’s Dream, with scenes from the play on the body and a quotation printed to the base.
The lid is decorated with theatrical motifs and gilt detailing, and the top finial is also gilt. The base carries the Sadler mark, pattern number 4444 and registered design number 2010603.
The teapot has a square body with slightly waisted sides and measures approximately 19cm at its widest point. A straightforward collector’s piece representing one of the better-known designs in the Sadler literary series.
