A wonderfully characterful vintage studio pottery figural jug, hand-crafted in an expressive folk art style and finished with a rich flowing treacle glaze in shades of green, brown and cream.
The front of the jug features a seated figure beside a small barrel, with the thick, heavily applied glaze creating a wonderfully organic finish that makes every angle interesting. The sculptural form, rustic styling and substantial handle give the piece real presence, making it equally suited as a decorative object or as part of a studio pottery collection.
Although unmarked, the jug displays many of the qualities associated with individually made studio pottery, including its free-form modelling, flowing glaze and hand-finished appearance.
Condition
Very good vintage condition overall.
There is a small chip to the underside of the base, visible in the photographs, which does not detract from display. No cracks or repairs noted.
