A substantial mid-20th century Swiss pottery beer tankard produced by Kohler Biel (Switzerland).
The base is incised “KOHLER BIEL 834 g”, identifying the maker and model number. The tankard features lively hand-painted figural scenes against a deep brown glazed ground. The decoration has a naïve, characterful quality typical of continental European decorative pottery of the period.
Standing approximately 12.5cm tall, the piece is solid and weighty, with a thick applied handle and wheel-thrown interior visible through the glaze rings.
A strong decorative example of Swiss mid-century pottery, ideal for collectors of European steins or character ceramics.
