A striking vintage West German studio pottery floor vase dating to the mid-20th century, produced during the height of the post-war ceramics movement. The vase stands 30 cm tall and features a bold orange central band framed by heavily textured volcanic “fat lava” glaze, set against an olive green ground with subtle brown tonal variation.
The form is a classic tall cylindrical body with a stepped collar neck, giving the piece strong vertical presence and sculptural balance. The base is impressed “W. GERMANY 517-30”, confirming West German manufacture prior to reunification, with the shape and size number typical of factory production during the 1960s–1970s.
This style of glaze and form is closely associated with leading West German manufacturers such as Scheurich, Bay Keramik and Dümler & Breiden. As is common with many examples from this period, no specific maker can be definitively attributed without a factory stamp.
